Scaffolds:

At Twomey Safety we deal
with many types of accidents, A
number of which are with scaffolds.
One accident for example, two
workers are standing on carpenter
bracket scaffolding and working on
a roof. The scaffold is three
brackets long and two planks wide
and secured to the side of the
home with rods through the wall.
The combined weight of the two
workers caused the rod to break
through the sheathing, resulting in
collapse and  serious injuries to
one of the workers. OSHA
standard 1926 subpart L explains
the proper installation of carpenter
brackets. Two recomendations we
suggest are J-Bolts around the
studs and or a backing plate
braced over the studs.
Ergonomics:

The Obama Administration has
reopened the door on an ergonomics
standard to help prevent long term
musculo-skeletal and repetitive-motion
injuries. Nurses, Typist, and Bucthers
are just a few who have injuries do to
the lack of an ergonomics standard.
General  industry will benefit from this
new standard the most.
Silica:

Silica has been known for a long
time to cause a cronic disease called
silicoses. Silica comes from
quartz-related materials witch are
found in sand, stone, cement and other
materials. Construction workers who
perform cement mixing and cutting of
stone are exposed to breathing silica.
OSHA has instructed its outreach
trainers to teach the hazards and
controls about silica.
